Week 3-4 Intelligent environment

On week 2, we learnt more about HCl. HCL is actually the Human-computer interface. depending on the user expertise in the field, the interface can be either technical or  graphical in order for the user to understand better what the interface is about.

An example for an HCL can be a digital clock with music option which consist of graphical content made easy to the user to see about the current time of the day as well as selection of music.

There are different type of interface, there is the context-aware interface as well as the adaptive interface.  they deliver messages according to context (Day,night+Place). it adapts to font size as well as audio and visual output.

though interfaces might be easier for some, but people who are having health problems might not be able to benefit from such interfaces.

A mean of helping these people can be the usage of powerful languages speech recognition which understand usage of sign languages as well as the usage of voice. the system actually understand the movement the user make and according to the database stored or a particular graph or chart, it will know which command the user is looking for.

interaction by voice isn’t something new. interaction by voice has been there for a long time. user can ask for assistance anytime and anywhere.

There also interfaces to help blind student understand how to use a certain system. the usage of voice search may help a blind student to access a certain online library in order to find a certain book which he wishes to find.

Technology can exist in different form , for example a gadget. A gadget can be about different ways such as a Wi-Fi plant sensor to help us to know about the current level of oxygen or mineral salt in plant. there is also the robotic fish. body scale can be in different form, one of the new ways of measuring one’s body scale is by the usage of a Wi-Fi balance. if one doesn’t know how to drive a car, the Google self-driving car is now available.

While scale system are emerging,

  • they need more time to develop
  • more usage of science
  • more risk
  • better benefits

In the field of businesses, everything is becoming more and more intelligent. there are intelligent workspaces, intelligent conference rooms as well as variety of mechanism which are used to help sketching etc. there is also voice recognition to make classes more interactive.

in the production sector, companies can keep track of products through

  • production line
  • transportation
  • stock reposition

What is fascinating is all these have been develop by the usage of sensors and technologies in order to better understand

Traffic management can also be made using sensors to better understand which route to take, road conditions, directions. emergency services priorities etc.

Classes are now equipped with better learning facilities. with smart classrooms and smart campuses, learning and teaching can be enhanced. resources of a campus can be accessed at anywhere and at anytime.

we also learnt of what can be expected from sensors for an intelligent home for example. this can be in terms of automation of light to security of a home.

On the next session of the class, we learnt stuff like AAL (Ambient Assisted living). it helps to monitor health trends and assist in day to day activities.

Developing a product might take several steps. product can be developed by various lines of codes, understanding the relationship, designing and asking opinion of users, designing the sensor plan, where can a sensor be placed etc. the process can also consist of saving a certain data in a database.

Users are at the centre of these application thus the opinion of users matters in order to develop such systems.

The second thing is the area where these sensors can be placed.  the area can be closed spaces such as houses and hospitals as well as open spaces such as street and bridge.

Sensors make us realize how things can be different when they are there. how automation can be made while they are there. they inform us of real time processing in order to better
